The Linen Quest

I think it's fair to say that I love working with linen. I love using it as a base for embroidery, I love that it goes with almost any fabric, and I love the look and feel of it.

What I don't love is how difficult it is to find the perfect linen for a project that doesn't cost the earth.

So, I'm on a quest to try as many different types of linen as I can find. If you can help with suggestions leave me a comment. I'm not going to keep the results to myself, I'm going to share them with you over the next few weeks so if you love working with linen or would like to and don't know where to start stay tuned...

  1. I can't help with a good linen source unfortunately but I do love linen too, so timeless and always beautiful.

  3. I'm keen to follow your linen adventure! I've loved using a 50% linen-cotton blend for a few different projects (including a bit of embroidery). It sits beautifully, $15 a metre at a fabric store near me. I've seen it on Kelani fabrics online for $20...

  5. I love linen as well and hate the cost! I'm having a giveaway on my shopping list from one of the featured sellers this weekend. :)

  6. Hey, not sure if this helps or not, but Jade and I recently bought some black hemp/cotton blend fabric and it has a very similar weight, texture and feel to sturdy linen. It is just beautiful. I'll bring a sample to Brown Owls this morning if you would like to check it out....it is still expensive though ($28 per metre at 150cm width).

  9. Don't know if this helps, but have you thought of factory outlets? I did a quick search and came up with this one:

It may not be at all suitable, but maybe it's worth further investigation. I look forward to hearing the results of your worthy quest!

  10. ... and you can try art stores. they sell linen by the metre for canvas. dont know how the price compares, but sometimes there will be offcuts, sold cheaper. and you can grab linen hankies and doileys from op shops.
I wonder if I could ask you to embroider my hoodie for me? (please?)

  11. I'm looking forward to your linen posts. I have bought my local supplier out of Leutennegger Sienna linen/cotton & they won't order more, so I am keen to find a substitute. I am even scouring op shops for linen in desperation!

  12. thank you so much for your reviews on linen. I am always searching for the perfect one! I bought some from a japanese etsy seller last year, but can't remember who it was and it was perfect for what I wanted. I will definitely check out the Kelani one too as they have such a good deal on postage.

    I will stay tuned.
